Types of Appliances
ELASTICS (RUBBER BANDS)
Elastics improve the alignment of your upper and lower teeth. Effective and efficient when worn according to your orthodontist’s instructions, they are crucial for progressing treatment.
FORSUS™
The Forsus Fatigue Resistant Device is a modern alternative to traditional headgear. It promotes proper jaw growth in adolescents, helps correct severe overbites, and may reduce the need for jaw surgery.
HERBST® APPLIANCE
This device corrects overbites by moving the lower jaw forward and the upper molars backward. It is typically worn for 12-15 months in younger, growing children.
PALATAL EXPANDER
This appliance is used to widen the upper jaw. At each adjustment, it places pressure on upper molars. Following the desired expansion, it is worn for several more months to solidify changes.
POSITIONERS
These are used at the final stage of orthodontic treatments to refine tooth positioning. Positioners require a few weeks of wear for optimal results.
RETAINERS
Available in removable or fixed forms, retainers maintain the position of straightened teeth. Proper care and consistent wear are essential to prevent movement post-treatment.
SEPARATORS OR SPACERS
Small rubber doughnuts placed between teeth to create space for orthodontic bands, separators are temporary and removed before band placement.
TWIN BLOCK APPLIANCE
This involves two separate pieces that work together to adjust the lower jaw’s position, enhancing facial profile and jaw function. It’s removable for easy cleaning and typically more comfortable than other options.
MARA APPLIANCE
Designed to advance the lower jaw, the Mandibular Anterior Repositioning Appliance is crucial for correcting severe overbites and reducing the need for more invasive procedures. It integrates fixed lower attachments and adjustable upper components for precise alignment adjustments.
